Visiting Artist

Yesterday saw the first visit of Beulah van Rensburg to Kellett to begin our Art/ICT project. She spoke to Year 7 students showing examples of her work, referring to her inspirations as well as the Surrealist movement in general.

We also had chance to ask some of the technical 'how to' questions that will help us to produce our finished artwork.

Beulah is pictured below with one of her images, entitled "Bellybuttons".

Beulah also works with the Chameleon Workshop. They have an exhibition entitled Day Dreams from April 11th. Full details can be found here.

Beulah is a surrealist photographer, and she came in yesterday to talk to us about what she does. She makes normal objects come alive by taking several pictures and changing how the oobjects look (painting them, cutting them apart). She came in with a powerpoint and starting talking to us about how she started her work and she became interested in surrealism. In her powerpoint she showed us several photographs she had made and how she came up them. Now we have to make our own!

Beulah is a surrealist photographer. She came to our school and showed us some of her work through a powerpoint. She usually makes her work by using the stuff that she has around her. Also, she makes an animation out of her work to make it come alive. Since we've seen some of her work, we are going to try and make our own!

Beulah is a photographer who came in to talk to us about surreal photography. She uses normal household objects to make her pictures, and even sometimes animate them. We will be doing a project with her. I can't wait!

We learnd that you dont acutlay have to make shadows you can just pint it on and still have a little light this is called painting with light. We also learnt that you just make something that is unusual and also it can be real. Also you can make things that look like they are flooting by your camera angle and pices of things that support them. We are going to make our own in about 6 or 8 weeks.

Beulah is a surrealist photographer, who has great images. Found objects, photos, the position of light and of course imagination combine in Beulah's artwork to create something really funny, strange or something just normal. An example of something normal is an alarm clock. Very normal, she based it on a clock that was made before the second world war but standing in a secondhand shop that was bought by Beulah.

She came in a few days ago (a week ago in fact) to talk about her work that she's produced in the past few years. For example she showed us "Bellybuttons" and how she did it. She did it by nailing some dolls to a wall. Something very easy to do, but the results are maybe a bit strange. That's my view on it, your views may be completely different to mine!

What we're going to do now is do what she did (not copying though!) It will be really fun, I know!

Beulah is a serealist photographer and she to visit Kellett School on the 7th of April. She showed us some of her seraelist photos. My favorite photo was the one with the tea cups and one red knife. This photo inspired me so in my photo I will be making knifes stand out amongst the depressed dolls. Beulah also showed us her animation, and told us about how to make her animation and how she had to shoot it backwards. I think she was very interesting and I hope I can look at her photos again soon!
